Devices and Sign-in
How Per Regna knows which empire to open on a phone, tablet or browser: playing one empire on several devices, moving to a new phone with Game Center or Google Play Games, Device Migration codes, playing in the browser, and why only one device plays at a time (from November 2026).
For breaks, vacation mode and account removal see Account Lifecycle. Email, Google and Apple sign-in are covered in FAQ โ Account.
One empire, many devices
Your empire lives on our servers, not on your phone. Every device you play on is linked to it, and you can link as many as you like: a phone, a tablet, a new phone, a browser.
- A device that is linked to your empire always opens that empire, even when Game Center or Play Games is signed out or slow to answer.
- Reinstalling the game on the same phone usually opens the same empire again. A new phone, or a phone that was reset, starts unlinked: link it with one of the ways below before you start playing there.
- Fleets, builds and research keep running on the server whichever device you use, and while no device is open at all.
There are three ways to link a device to an empire you already have:
| Way | Best for | How |
|---|---|---|
| Game Center / Play Games | A new phone or tablet on the same Apple ID or Google account | Automatic: the game asks you when it finds your empire. See below. |
| Device Migration | Any two devices you have in hand, including different platforms (iPhone โ Android) | A one-time code from the device that has your empire. See Device Migration. |
| Sign-in methods | Keeping your empire safe if you lose your phone; playing on the web | Link your email, Google or Apple account under Settings โ Account โ Sign-in methods. See FAQ โ Account. |
New phone with Game Center or Play Games
If your old device was signed in to Game Center (iPhone, iPad) or Google Play Games (Android), sign in to the same account on the new device. When the game finds an empire on that account, it asks before doing anything:
- Continue with Game Center account / Continue with Play Games account shows your empire's name and Realm. Pick it to play that empire on this device. The device stays linked to it from then on.
- Start a new account creates a separate empire on this device. You are not asked about that Game Center / Play Games account again on this device.
On iPhone and iPad the question usually comes up while the game is loading, or just after it opens if Game Center was slow to sign in. On Android Play Games connects a few seconds after the game has opened, so the question can appear once you are already looking at a brand-new empire (for example the one the tutorial just started). In that case the second button reads Keep playing <empire name>:
- Choose your old empire and the new one on this device is deleted. Anything you did in it is lost.
- Choose to keep the new empire and your old empire stays where it is, linked to your other devices.
Limits
- You can only swap away from an empire that is less than a day old and has no purchases. A device whose empire is older keeps it: to move that device, use Device Migration.
- Connecting needs the game to verify your device. If you see "We could not verify this device", try again later, or use Device Migration from your other device.
- Game Center and Play Games accounts each belong to one empire. Several devices can share it (for example your iPhone and iPad on the same Apple ID); they all open that empire.
Device Migration
Device Migration (tap your profile at the top left, then About โ Device Migration) links two devices with a one-time code. It works between any platforms, and both devices keep playing afterwards.
- On the device that has the empire you want, choose This is my old device and tap Generate Code. The code has 8 characters and is valid for 5 minutes (generate a new one if it runs out).
- On the other device, open About โ Device Migration, choose This is my new device and enter the code.
- Both empires are shown: This Device and Other Device, with their name and Realm. Select the account to keep and confirm.
What happens next:
- Both devices now open the empire you kept. Nothing is removed from the old device.
- The empire you did not select is archived and removed after 1 month. Its other devices and sign-in methods move to the empire you kept. Contact support within that month if you picked the wrong one.
- You cannot use a code on the empire that generated it.
On the web, use the same code under Connect your empire on the sign-in page to play your phone's empire in the browser.
Playing in the browser (and on Steam)
The web version opens as an open beta in the first week of November 2026 at play.perregna.com. It is built for computers and larger screens, and the upcoming Steam version shares its look and controls.
- The web version is account first: sign in with your email (6-digit code), Google or Apple.
- To play the empire from your phone, first link one of those under Settings โ Account โ Sign-in methods on the phone, then use the same method on the web. Or enter a Device Migration code under Connect your empire on the web sign-in page (see Device Migration).
- Start a new empire is offered only after Connect your empire, so you do not create a second empire by mistake.
- On a computer you do not own, sign out when you are done: Sign out in the Profile tab of Settings (or at the bottom of Settings โ Account). Signing out also clears the game's data from that browser.
- Quantum Shard packs and the Imperial Access Pass bought in the browser give 20% more Quantum Shards than in the App Store or Google Play, Pass renewals included. Payments go through our web payment partner, which shows the price in your currency.
- During the beta we want your feedback on the new interface: Settings โ About โ Help & Support or our Discord.
One device at a time
From November 2026 your empire plays on one device at a time. You can still link as many devices as you like. When you open your empire on another device, the device you were playing on shows Playing on another device:
- Tap Play here to continue on this device. The other device then shows the same message.
- Nothing is lost when you switch: fleets, builds and research keep running, and the device you take over reloads your empire as it is now.
- If Play here fails, check your connection and tap it again.
This keeps two devices from giving orders to the same empire at once, for example sending the same fleet twice.
Troubleshooting
My device opened a new empire instead of mine
Do not build up the new empire. Then:
- Game Center / Play Games: make sure you are signed in to the same account as on your old device and restart the game. While the new empire is less than a day old you are offered your old empire.
- Otherwise: use Device Migration from the device that has your empire and keep that empire. The new one is removed.
- If you no longer have the old device, link a sign-in method next time (see FAQ โ Account) and contact support from Settings โ About โ Help & Support with your empire's name.
My other device says "Playing on another device"
Your empire was opened somewhere else. Tap Play here on the device you want to use.
I picked the wrong empire
An empire left behind by Device Migration is kept for a month: contact support with both empire names. An empire left behind on a new phone (less than a day old) is deleted and cannot be restored.
