Overview

The Frigate is a Realm 2 support escort with a strong shield profile and science utility. In attack fleets it is also the primary tool for shortening the defender’s early-warning window β€” see Fleet Detection.

Special capabilities

Early-warning stealth

When you launch a PvP attack, the defender’s push alert is timed from radar and Frigate escort ratio β€” not from the moment you leave dock.

  • Match Frigates to your other ships: each 5% of that match ratio removes 1 minute from the defender’s warning
  • Cap: βˆ’20 minutes when Frigates β‰₯ other ships in the fleet
  • Final alert still falls between 10–30 minutes before arrival (radar can push toward the long end)

Full rules, radar interaction, and moon-launch stealth: Fleet Detection.

Fleet role

Frigates sit in the forward screen with high hull and shields, soaking pressure while combat hulls deal damage. They are support β€” not a replacement for dedicated warships.

Strategic Use

  • Bring Frigates on raids when you want a shorter defender reaction window
  • Pair with moon launches so Radar Station scans are less likely to spot your outbound fleet (moon launches)
  • Expect strong anti-Frigate Rapid Fire from several mid/late combat hulls β€” do not over-invest without cover
